  • So do you have curtains?
  • Can I see your credit card bills for the last year?
  • So no problem with a webcam in your bathroom or your bedroom either?
  • Would you give passwords to your email and other accounts to anyone?
  • Are you OK if your 'private' date becomes public?

Privacy is not for hiding, never was. Privacy is for protecting:

  • Think about voting, medical information, and banking information. It is obvious that you wish them to be kept private.
  • You might be discriminated or harassed based on your personal information, or become a victim of identity theft or impersonation.
  • Because the government gets to define what’s wrong, and they keep changing the definition.
  • Surveillance, for example, can inhibit such lawful activities as free speech, free association and other rights essential for democracy.
  • What is socially accepted today could cause you trouble tomorrow. Or would you have thought twenty years ago that your health insurance company could make your premiums dependent on your eating habits?
